Lima Beans and More...

Since we were studying plants in science, I decided to have the students try and sprout some lima beans.  We used baggies, paper towels, cotton balls, water and sunshine from the window.  Half of the class used paper towels and the other half used cotton balls.
Some of the student's beans sprouted and even grew some leaves while others just grew moldy and turned brown.  It was fun to see them change throughout the weeks!  Last week, we planted the beans so it will be interesting to see which beans will grow.

We also did a few experiments to see if the lima beans would sprout if they did not have water, air or sunshine.  For an example, one bag we filled with diet coke, another was filled with soapy water, one bag had only water, another one had only sun, and one bag we hung in the cabinet so the sun couldn't reach it.  The class was given an observation sheet and were to observe their bean and its progress throughout the week.

OTHER UPDATES....

We also celebrated Anthony's birthday and drew him a birthday crown!
Aidan was student of the week!

Wee-Sha lost her tooth at recess!

We played a cool multiplication game using dice

We have been praying for all of those who lost their homes and have been hurt by the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.  I started praying and let the students pray if they wished to.  It was so sweet to hear their sweet hearts open up and pray to our Lord to help the people, give them warm beds to sleep in, keep them safe and to help the people who were hurt.

We also did a new activity where the class was asked to line up in ABC order but they could not talk at all.  There was lots of pointing, waving of hands and some frustration but I loved watching them work together.  :) Maybe this week we will do this again but use their last names instead of their first.
